Nick and I went out this morning at 4:30 and by 5 we were set up. The tom
flew down about 75 yards away, stood out at a distance strutting and telling the peg leg hen to come to him, but she wasn't budging. (the
"staked maiden") Two jakes and two hens flew down and they checked out the decoy but the tom stayed back in the distance until he spat and
drummed his way a little too close for his comfort. At 5:55 a.m. and 35 yards a load of #5 Winchester Supreme from Nick's 935 put him down. He
weighed 20.1 pounds, his beard is 10-1/16", one spur was 1-1/8 inch, the other was 1-1/4 inch. He scored out at 63.9 for the Maine skull and
antler club (which also keeps track of turkeys). You need a 60 to get a patch and have it entered. It had rained the day before and he was a
little ratty looking because he was wet. The picture of him on the log cabin was after he dried out. Two down, one to go! Isaac's Jake, Nick's
Tom and now I've got to roll out at zero dark thirty tomorrow and try for mine. Alot of fun!
